DATE: Victorian, c.1870
An outstanding mid-Victorian round locket with more than a hint of the Etruscan Revival in its design. It dates from the 1870s, featuring a highly domed pavé turquoise centre and applied rope goldwork around the border as well as a further eight turquoise cabochons. The back features a glass locket compartment, and it's crafted in 15 karat gold throughout. Somehow has a vaguely nautical look to it with all the ropework, roundness, and the eight cabs on the border are reminiscent of an old ship's wheel.
